THE PEOPLE

The members of the Wood's Reach are few, and any who desire to aid in their focus on the protection of the Twelveswood from both Men and Beastmen are welcome.

However, there are some who simply would not well-acclimate to such a life, though this does not by any means forbid helpful allies from being privy to their secret calls.

The easiest way to get in contact with a member of the Wood's Reach from an outsider's viewpoint is to seek out knowledge of them around Little Solace, in the East Shroud..

Elezen must be accepted on a by-person basis; many of Gridania's quivermen are among these men and women, and the Wood's Reach are not exactly smiled upon...

Hyur are accepted without any overly exhausting qualms.

Lalafell would have to be allowed on a by-person basis. The ladders and holds of the initial leaps up to more trustworthy means are ill-made for the plainsfolk, though those who prove capable are more than welcome!

Miqo'te are most adapted to excel, already having exemplary hearing, balance, and ( in the case of Keepers of the Moon,) night-vision. All these things help immensely in their duties.

Roegadyn and Hrothgar are some of the least-proficient at the lifestyle of the tree-running Reachpeople; the delicate ropeways and hanging cities are not suited to men and women of such great heart and weight. This does not forbid them, however; eyes on the ground are just as welcome as eyes in the canopies.

THE CULTURE

The hunter-rangers of the Reach come from all walks of life; the unifying element being respect for and understanding of the Twelveswood; the Elementals can only do so much without aid.

Physical prowess is present in its people; they spend most of their days in heavy activity among the canopies. The Shroud's upper boughs were thick and easy to traverse once- nowadays the rangers must travel the barkways with manufactured aid.

Nonetheless the forest is still large, and the runners of the Reach have smoke-signals to easily reach bretheren in times of need.

  • RED smoke denotes the location of a notorious monster that needs be eliminated, before the monstrosity threatens the natural creatures around it.

  • BLACK smoke is a call of confrontation involving another person; it is most usually fired to denote an adventurer in need of aid..  sometimes even a member of the Reach.

  • GREEN smoke is used to summon a Syphic ally ( usually Taxio or Almexia ) to its location, for whatever aid they can offer to one of the rangers.

  • Smokes of other hues are by-ranger basis; each of them marked to their specific owner. Often not a sign of emergency, but a call to come to ground for a briefing.

Aside from these interactions, the rangers to not often lower themselves from the hidden canopy-roads of the Shroud. Passerby hear naught of their dealings, for they are oft conducted a hundred fulms up above the forest's ground level; here is where the rangers roost among woven sylphic boughs.
